NATURE TOUR

A must do when staying in Sydney

Put the ‘wild’ back into Wildlife

Less than two hours south of Sydney this exceptional tour offers the opportunity to experience the diverse Aussie Bush while searching for some of Australia’s iconic native animals in their natural habitat - kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, birdlife, platypus, elusive koalas and much more.

Travel in a luxury 4WD to private farmland and bushland locations in the Southern Highlands with a specialist guide who will interpret all that you see. Animals migrate throughout the area and sightings vary seasonally. Search for kangaroos and wallabies in open clearings, try to spot a koala in woodland forests of Grey Gums, surprise a platypus along the riverbanks in the warmer months.

After dinner, go night-spotting for nocturnal wombats, gliders & possums. We seek out the animals when they’re most active, with a noon to evening tour that includes lunch or afternoon tea (depending on season) & a hearty country-style dinner in one of Australia’s oldest country inns.

Includes picnic lunch or afternoon tea and dinner, travelling in 4WDs customised for exceptional wildlife viewing – with onboard field guides, binoculars, spotlights, TV/DVD, 25x zoom video, & retractable sunroof for optimum viewing. Maximum 11 passengers.

Light Lunch & Dinner included (April to September); Afternoon Tea & Dinner included (October to March). Tour departs Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri & Sat (varies seasonally) at approx. noon, returns approx. 10pm. Shared tour.

Wildlife Safari with Vision Walks – ex Byron Bay

On our Wildlife Safari, we visit three different habitats near Byron Bay (eucalyptus forest, rainforest and grassland), to see Aussie wildlife in the wild. We guarantee that you'll see; koala, kangaroo, wallaby, flying fox and birds. We may see pademelon, echidna, tawny frogmouth, water dragons, depending on the conditions. We include; an Environmental Scientist as a guide, transport in our comfy 7 seater 4WD and a locally sourced picnic in the rainforest. If you want to feed or pat the wildlife, then, this is not the tour for you. As with all of our eco tours, we try and observe the wildlife without disturbing them.

The typical mammal sightings are: 3-6 koalas, 20-30 eastern grey kangaroos, 100's of grey headed and black flying fox, 2-6 red necked wallaby, 1-4 red-legged pademelon. Plus any number of birds such as: purple swamp hen, dusky moorhen, coot, wood duck, pacific black duck, ibis, spoonbill, egret (various species), rainbow lorikeet, scaly breasted lorikeet, kookaburra, eastern yellow robin, scrub wrens, noisy pitta, magpies, willie wagtails, currawong.

As we have to visit the wildlife where they live, there is some driving involved with this tour, which includes a 45 min drive at the start, 1 hour drive at the end and short drives with walks in-between.

Departs from Byron Bay (9.30am to 4.00pm) on Wed and Sun – other days on application
